Our gateway at Cawood has served Biggin Broadband since the birth of CLANNET back in 2004. Since moving Biggin Broadband over to a fibre optic connection early this year our node at Cawood has taken on a backup role for Biggin Broadband aswell as providing emergency hosting space of services if required.

As Cawood is no longer the main gateway for Biggin Broadband meaning we can work on things without affecting service, we took the opportunity this weekend to tidy things up a little and installed a new data cabinet to house our equipment. As always, pictures below!

A customary before shot:

This picture shows our monitoring server along with our backup ADSL routers and UPS systems on the floor. Looks quite a lot to fit in to the data rack….

Progress:

Patch panel installed with cables now terminated. You can see the power injectors for the node antenna mounted to the rear of the cabinet, with the router and switch equipment installed on the shelf at the base of the cabinet.

Another closeup:

The monitoring server will temporarily live on top of the data cabinet, until an extra rack mount shelf arrives to mount it inside.

Finished:

All done, not bad!

External View:

This is how the node looks from the outside. The large antenna mounted on the top is our own original design, laser cut by a local firm from aluminium, which connected Biggin to Cawood in 2004 long before there was anything on the commercial market to do so. The device is no longer in use, but remains as a piece of CLANNET history.

Thanks to an amazing effort by everyone involved, Nun Monkton connections will hopefully be finished today with work starting on Moor Monkton straight away. We have hit a couple of teething problems, which we are working round the clock to put right but we ask for patience during this hectic build phase of the project.

Once building works are complete, our efforts will be focused on fine tuning the network and ensuring reliability.

Thanks once again to all those involved, and the communities of Nun & Moor Monkton.

We are very pleased to announce that Biggin, our very first network built back in 2004, was today connected to fibre! We have teamed up with LN Communications to connect Biggin to a NyNet POP in Barlby. A new router and gateway box has been installed, and our new connection went live on the 11th Feb. Biggin now enjoys speeds of up to 20Mbps both upload and download!

As always, pictures of our new gateway installation:
